The new EIKON edition 325 FOTOGRAMM by Günther & Loredana Selichar consists of 25 unique works that, in analogy to the title, depict the outlines of 1 to 25 one-gram weights on light-sensitive photographic paper, each one corresponding to its retrospective weight. The photogram technique used here dates back to the early days of photography and, as a camera-less process, is characterized by partial, direct exposure through the immediate, physical contact between object and paper, as well as by a restricted colour palette (most commonly a black-and-white contrast). By pricing the works per gram, an attempt is made to enable the purchase of a precise quantity “of photography”. By intertwining technique and weight, title and image-making, Loredana & Günther Selichar raise questions of authorship, materiality and value (creation) in the photographic medium.
