Michael Endlicher & Harald Woschitz – SELF MEETS THE WORLD

2026/05

EIKON #132 | WHERE IS PHOTOGRAPHY NOW?

Self Meets the World, a series of 26 image compositions, combines a portrait of Michael Endlicher with a photograph by Harald Woschitz. In this merging, self-perception and external reality collide, giving rise to a visually reflective dialogue. Two equally weighted visual worlds come into contact—inside and outside, self and world. Yet the relationship is not linear: one does not illustrate the other. Instead, both levels interact in a dynamic, unresolved tension. Is it the face that looks out at the world—or the world that inscribes itself upon the face? Woschitz’s photographs resist definitive interpretation; they create resonant spaces in which the question itself is expanded. Identity no longer appears as a stable inner core, but rather as a fluid condition, shaped by what lies outside—landscapes, textures, history, light.
“Michael Endlicher and Harald Woschitz are deeply committed to this special form of dialogue. Their collaborative work, titled Self Meets the World, brings their individual artistic languages into a shared photographic space – yet they remain distinctly separate. Each piece in the series is a duet. What unifies the images is the narrative thread that unfolds between the visual impuses – of which there are many. Every viewer brings their own experiences into play, disvovering differant angles and shaping their own unique version of the story”. – Bertold Ecker (curator)
